The National:

UNLESS you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware The National has organised a rally for independence in Glasgow on Saturday.

It seems Laura Kuenssberg may well have been living under a rock.

The BBC’s political editor tweeted today: “The SNP has just announced a big rally on Saturday in Glasgow – do you think that's the action of a party about to say yes or no to a General Election??”

Firstly, the George Square event is being hosted by The National, though it will feature speeches from SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon and MP Mhairi Black.

Secondly, the rally was announced last Friday on the front page of The National – as reported by the BBC.

That announcement has been supplemented by a social media campaign, with speakers Janey Godley and Wee Ginger Dug subsequently announced.

And funnily enough, the major focus of the #indyref2020 rally is Scottish independence.

The First Minister pointed out the BBC editor's errors.

Kuenssberg tweeted “I stand corrected” after it was pointed out to her that the event had not just been announced.

“Public notice just sent out to broadcasters and First Minister's attendance,” she wrote.

The rally will start at 1.30pm in George Square. Stay tuned for further announcements on speakers!
