PLANS to revamp Paisley Museum have been boosted by a pledge of £2 million from the Scottish Government.

The move, which will go towards the creation of a new wing of the museum and an outdoor garden, was announced during a visit to the town by Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop and Finance Secretary Derek Mackay. They were attending the launch of Renfrewshire’s Economic Strategy 2020-30, a plan intended to boost the economy of the area.

It is hoped the proposal will help bring £1.4 billion in infrastructure investment and 9000 new jobs.

The museum is expected to reopen in 2022, with the £42m Paisley Museum Re-imagined scheme due to inject almost £80m into the area’s economy over 30 years.

Renfrewshire Council leader Iain Nicholson said he hopes the project will help make the area “a world-class destination”.
