IN a truly shocking turn of events, a man who shut down Parliament has been caught out in a pathetic attempt to avoid scrutiny.

That’s right, Boris Johnson, who was this week described as “infantile” by the EU Brexit co-ordinator, hid from the press because some people were saying some nasty things about him.

He was due to give a joint Q&A with the prime minister of Luxembourg after holding talks with Xavier Bettel and EU chiefs to outline his grand – and definitely real – plan to break the Brexit deadlock.

But after a handful of protesters shouted some disparaging comments about Johnson as he arrived for his meeting the Luxembourg PM, the Tory leader opted for a more intimate affair with a small group of journalists assembled at the nearby residence of the British ambassador.

Speaking to Sky News afterwards, Johnson said the decision was borne out of a familiar sense of selflessness. He said "points would have been drowned out" by protesters, and that he didn't think it fair to Bettel.

A clearly furious Bettel went ahead with the question and answer session alone, providing onlookers with a chance to fill in the blank.
