Strictly The Professionals (BBC1, 7pm)

BACK in 2004, someone had the bright idea to launch a show where famous faces learned the finer points of ballroom dancing. However, the brains behind Strictly Come Dancing perhaps did not foresee that the professionals doing the teaching would go on to become stars in their own right. In fact, the likes of Kevin Clifton and Anton Du Beke are probably better known to the public than some of the supposed celebrities who signed up for this year’s contest. So, before the new series starts in earnest, this programme pays tribute to the dancers who have become the lifeblood of Strictly.

The Chase Celebrity Special (STV, 7.15pm)

BRADLEY Walsh kicks off a new series of the game show with comedian Russell Kane, Call the Midwife actress Leonie Elliott, Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton and dancer and entertainer Bonnie Langford pitting their wits against one of the ruthless quiz geniuses, the Chaser. The quartet must strategically work as a team and answer general knowledge questions against the clock while racing down the game board without being caught.

Britain at Low Tide (C4, 8pm)

PALAEOBIOLOGIST Dr Tori Herridge and her team of experts explore the coast of Kent around Whitstable. The programme takes a look at the excavation of one of the most significant shipwreck discoveries of recent times, the origins of a strange sandbar, and a forgotten military base in an unusual location which proved pivotal in deciding the outcome of the First World War. Plus, a look at how rising sea levels and coastal erosion mean that a great deal of archaeology may be lost before it can be documented.

Darkness: Those Who Kill (BBC4, 9pm & 9.45pm)

AS the Danish drama continues, Jan and Louise find a dress belonging to Natasha, the first victim, which Anders Kjeldsen had hidden. And that very same night, Anders tries to kidnap another woman. Meanwhile, Stine Velin attends her big brother Mikkel’s 40th birthday party at which a dark family secret is revealed. Then in tonight’s second episode, the public appeal for information on Anders leads to the identification of the third victim from the farm, as well as an explanation of how all the women first met their killer.

The Jonathan Ross Show (STV, 10.15pm)

GRAHAM Norton is still on his summer holidays, so Jonathan Ross should have the pick of the guests as he returns for a new series. He’s certainly got a bumper crop of celebrities for the first episode, including Elizabeth McGovern and Michelle Dockery, who will be plugging the new Downton Abbey movie. Stephen Fry is also dropping in for a chat, along with comeback kid Craig David and actor Martin Freeman. They’ll be joined by Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens.
