The Great Model Railway Challenge (C5, 8pm)
THE clock is ticking as 15 teams of railway modellers compete in series two of the engaging contest. James Richardson and Tim Shaw are your hosts for the first of eight themed rounds. The first is The Restless Earth, brought to life by three teams of enthusiasts. Volcanoes, earthquakes and other (small-scale) natural disasters should make Geostorm look like a kid’s tea party. Cancer research scientists The Train Set hope their mental agility will serve them well. Fancott Miniature Marvels create a rogue fracking
operation, and one of the UK’s oldest modelling clubs, Corby Model Railway Society, opts for an earthquake, volcano and landslide. Steve Flint, editor of Railway Modeller, and vlogger Kathy Millatt will be passing judgment.
Gogglebox (C4, 9pm)
NOT long after a rather good run of the celebrity version, many of the couch potatoes-turned-stars are back with a new run of the TV review show. As ever, they will be enthusing over how much they love whatever series is under review, as well as being gobsmacked or thrilled by some of the films we all saw decades ago, but for them it’s like they’ve never seen a movie before, let alone a classic. And of course there’s a few domestic squabbles thrown into the mix, while assorted pets vie for screen time. As cheap and cheerful TV goes, this is unmissable entertainment. And Craig Cash’s narration, as ever, is a joy, even if we know that Lee and Jenny in Hull are best friends, as he tells us every week.
Fosse/Verdon (BBC2, 9pm)
BOB is offered advice by his friend Paddy Chayefsky about his autobiographical film All That Jazz, and hears Gwen’s account of their relationship with him and the making of Chicago. Years later Bob and Gwen reminisce in a bar and Bob tells her he has been offered to direct the revival of Sweet Charity and declined, but suggests that Gwen take the role of supervisor to recreate the original dance numbers. Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams star in the final episode of the biographical drama about the lives of choreographer-director Bob Fosse and celebrated Broadway dancer Gwen Verdon. Also features Margaret Qualley and Norbert Leo Butz. Last in the series.
