FRIEND of The National David Mitchell is asking whether readers can help him identify some of the people in this photograph. He believes it is from Bo’ness, possibly at one of the “Rebel Ceilidhs”.

The photograph, he thinks, is from either the late 1940s or the early 1950s. David says: “We recognise Hugh MacDonald, (one of the men who carried Winnie Ewing on their shoulders in the famous photo from the 1967 by-election) on the left, Wendy Wood in the middle with the blouse, on the far right (possible) Bo’ness Councillor William Horn.

We think the man whispering in Hugh’s ear might be poet Norman McCaig.”
