THE purpose of the Yes DIY pages is to report on the activities of the Yes Movement and it is always a pleasure to record when Yes groups take an innovative approach to campaigning like these two groups who are definitely doing things differently.
Next Wednesday, Dundee and Angus Independence Group is holding a “Taste of Scotland” event, discussing what will happen to the Scottish food-producing sectors post Brexit and hearing directly from those involved.
Speakers include Jim Fairlie, a sheep and cattle farmer from Perthshire and Heather Anderson, an organic farmer in the Borders.
The group said: “They will be talking about how Brexit will affect them - and us as consumers – when we crash out of Europe, deal or no deal.”
Now here’s the innovative bit. The group stated: “The first half of the evening will be for our speakers, then there will be a break followed by a question and answer session. We’ll have Scottish producers offering samples of their wares and there will be a free buffet of Scottish deliciousness!”
This event takes place on September 18 from 7pm to 9pm in the Sanctuary Hall at the Steeple Church, Dundee. Tickets can be obtained on Eventbrite.
We’re also happy to report that Yes Berwickshire and friends have produced a cabaret that they have called Westminster Follies, which will take place in Volunteer Hall, Duns, on Saturday September, 21, doors open at 7pm and the performance beginning at 7.30pm.
The group stated: “Master of ceremonies, Peter Lerpiniere will introduce a varied evening featuring the World Premier performance of Gerda Stevenson’s The Remembrancer performed by John McEwan and Eloner Crawford, lifting the lid on this little known but powerful official at Westminster.
There will also be Sweet Soul Music of the Border. Fresh from Innerleithen Music Festival, Matt Seattle and Donald Knox, Border piper and guitarist, will play a choice selection from their uniquely rich repertoire of tunes from the deep heart of our shared Borderland.
Making a joyous contribution to the evening will be Earlsdon Ukulele Club, also fresh from Innerleithen Music Festival andThe evening will also feature a quiz and other surprise contributions from members of Yes Berwickshire.
Tickets will cost £5 for adults, free for children under 16, and can be obtained from Nairns Newsagents, members of Yes Berwickshire or at the door on the night. All bar takings will be in support of A Heart for Duns.
Pete Rowberry of Yes Berwickshire, said: “This is the first time that Yes Berwickshire have produced such an entertainment and it has been an exciting and rewarding experience.”
