OUR Yes DIY hub has always said co-operation between the various pro-independence groups would help spread the Yes movement’s influence and on Saturday we saw a prime example of that collaborative process.
Yes Arbroath and Yes Angus joined forces to distribute a leaflet in Arbroath, delivering it to about 4000 houses in all.
It was a terrific effort by all concerned and an indication in what might lie ahead for Arbroath which, of course, will host the 700th anniversary of the eponymous Declaration of Independence next year.
Meanwhile, can we draw your attention to an event being held tonight in Knightswood in Glasgow where Greg McCarra of the Scottish Independence Foundation (SIF) will be the main speaker at Yes Glasgow North West’s latest meeting.
It takes place in room number six of the Knightswood Community Centre at 201 Alderman Road.
McCarra is a former SNP councillor in West Lothian, a lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University, and trade unionist – “and currently ragtime guitarist,” as he says on Facebook.
He will be talking about the SIF, the progress it has made and the role it can play in the preparations for indyref2.
On Saturday coming, we will carry a preview of the Forward as One march and rally in Dunfermline scheduled that day. If you don’t already know about this event please check out the information on social media, particularly www.facebook.com/ForwardAsOneScot
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
