THE SNP is leading last-ditch calls for the Home Office to instruct private housing provider Serco to halt the lock-changing evictions of asylum seekers in Glasgow.

The calls come as a number of front-line housing organisations joined together to urge Serco to halt the evictions – just days before the housing provider is due to change the locks on the first houses in Glasgow.

Last month Serco announced it would restart its lock-changing programme, which could leave hundreds of asylum seekers homeless and destitute.

However, a number of interim interdict orders preventing the evictions of individuals already served with notices by Serco have been obtained over the past week, with more to be heard.

SNP MSP Sandra White said: “The deadline for these evictions is looming, but the silence from the Home Office on this matter has been absolutely deafening.”
