THE final preparations are being made for All Under One Banner’s latest pro-independence event.

This time the Yes movement is descending on Oban, where a march and rally will take place on Saturday.

The procession will start from Atlantis Leisure Car Park and proceed via Breadalbane Street, George Street, Argyll Square, Combie Street, and Glencruitten Road to Mossfield Stadium where the rally will take place.

That’s the route sorted, but what else do you need to know?

WHERE DOES IT START?

Marchers are to gather at the designated start point, the Atlantis Leisure Car Park, and allow time to spare. You will be organised by stewards into formation for the march that will leave at 2.30 pm sharp.

WHO WILL LEAD IT?

The march will be led by one single flag carrier (AUOB flag) and Saor Alba Pipe Band. No marchers or stewards will be allowed in front of the musicians.

Next in line will be a designated section for less abled marchers and wheelchair users who will form in rows of four across. It will be managed by stewards assigned to this task.

The AUOB banner will be placed immediately behind the wheelchair users with a steward on each side. All stewards will form on each side of the marchers and spread themselves from the front to the back of the march. All marchers will line up in fours behind the banner.

Keeping to these guidelines is important for calculating an accurate number of participants and for the march to proceed in an orderly manner. No marchers will be allowed to be in front of the banner to ensure health and safety.

WHAT SHOULD YOU I WEAR?

Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring water and sunscreen as required. Stewards and police are there to ensure that everyone has a good time and stays safe so please obey any instructions given by them. Remember the stewards are volunteers and are there to make sure the event is a success.

WILL THERE BE COUNTER-DEMOS?

Any counter-demonstrations will be handled by specialised stewards – marchers can either ignore the counter-demonstrators or smile and wave. There is to be no standing beside them or mixing in with them. Organisers say there are aware counter-protestors now have body cameras.

WHAT ABOUT COLLECTIONS?

As you are leaving Atlantis Leisure CarPark AUOB will have a team of volunteers doing a bucket collection, including Yes groups now involved with a new initiative. They will be carrying AUOB buckets with logos, wearing hi-viz vests and ID badges. Each bucket will have a unique tamper proof reference number lock that will be assigned to an individual collector.

The National:

There will be no other authorised collectors if you see anyone collecting without the AUOB identity badges and tamper-proof security tags on buckets displaying the AUOB logo please report this to the nearest steward immediately. An exception to this is the Saor Alba Pipes and Drums when arriving at Mossfield Stadium who will be doing a collection for 30 minutes when they perform their finale.

On the first working day after the march and rally, the buckets will be opened in front of independent bodies including Yes groups that took part, recorded by them and AUOB. AUOB are asking, if able, for marchers to donate £1 or any amount you can give. Organisers are hoping to raise enough for a massive billboard campaign, and all funds raised will go into furthering the cause of independence.

HOW CAN I HELP?

The AUOB steward team, which has built-up five years' successful experience, will be out in full force on Saturday to ensure a smooth passage of the procession through the town centre and at the assembly location and rally site of Mossfield Stadium.

However, the team will be recruiting additional volunteer stewards to join on the day. The requirements include donning a hi-viz vest and following simple instructions. No prior experience is required. Full guidance will be given on the day via steward briefings running every 30 minutes from 1pm approaching the 2.30pm start time.

At the rally, unless prior authorisation has been given, marchers and stewards will not be allowed behind or onto stage. The area directly in front of the stage is reserved for media coverage.

WHAT IF I HAVE A STALL?

All Stall Holders are recommended to arrive from 11 am. Upon arrival at Mossfield Stadium you will be directed by AUOB site manager Alastair Gordon Rennie as to where to park and set your stall up.

WHAT ELSE?

Come along and enjoy the day, bring your flags, pipes and drums. Bring your family and friends, encourage others to join.
