1 Big names, big fun and big sounds at Electric Frog and the annual Riverside Festival is returning to Glasgow this Bank Holiday weekend, starting yesterday and continuing today.Now in its 7th year, Scotland’s biggest electronic music festival takes place in the grounds of the Riverside Museum on the banks of the Clyde, bringing many scene-leading, cutting-edge and underground artists and DJs to this unique and iconic location.

3 Roots, Rhythms, Testimonies: Brina, Tom Pow and Marty Hailey at the Fruitmarket Edinburgh. Reggae singer Brina is one of Scotland’s undersung talents. Her music sees fuses together elments of her rich cultural and musical heritage. Today at 7.30pm. Tickets available at Eventbrite.
4 The mighty Macks are back. Goodbye Mr Mackenzie play the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh tonight 7.pm. This column saw the gang at the Glasgow Gargage this week, and this is not a gig you want to miss. My heart belongs to Metcalfe obvs and of course to Regular music for bringing them back to us.
5 The Botanics Books Fair is a quiet pleasure, a hidden gem, bringing back memories of many a beloved Sunday afternoon with a pokey hat and a lazy meander. A free event with stalls selling a wide variety of second hand, vintage and antiquarian books. The sale is located in The Hopkirk Building. Wheelchair accessible, buggies welcome, dog friendly. And there’s a cafe nearby. Book lovers rejoice.
6 Horse. Twenty five odd years ago I went to see Horse at a pub in Dundee. Nine albums she is once again back in the city, appearing at Dundee rep next Saturday, 1 June at 7.30pm. This woman is like wine or whisky, she just gets better and better with age. Tickets a mere £19. Boom
7 STEMGIRLS. Are you a girl or parent of a girl between 8 years and 17 years? Well a new event and club is launching in Paisley. Every Wednesday 6pm-8pm. Paisley Makerspace, William Street. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
