TWO Glasgow entrepreneurs are to represent Scotland and Northern Ireland in a global business competition with a $1 million (£776,000) prize fund.

Glasgow-based business Revive Eco that recycles coffee waste is the only business representing Scotland and Northern Ireland in the 2019 Chivas Venture competition, being held in Amsterdam in May.

The Chivas Venture, which has previously had the likes of Halle Berry and will.i.am as judges, looks for businesses which are driven to create far-reaching social and environmental impact through their business operations. The competition will run alongside The Next Web conference and will see the 20 companies compete to be crowned the winning idea from May 7-9. The next three weeks of the Chivas Venture sees an online public vote take place, with $100,000 being split across the top six companies.

Voting closes on April 30 and can be done through the Chivas Venture website.

Revive was founded by Scott Kennedy and Fergus Moore to divert all used coffee grounds away from landfill, and extracting maximum value from this material.

The company collects used coffee grounds from a range of locations across Scotland and processes it to create a range of environmentally-friendly products.

Kennedy said: “The competition in the regional final was extremely high, and so we were delighted to have been selected to progress.”
