CAMPAIGN group Extinction Rebellion has blocked off Edinburgh's North Bridge as part of an international demonstration.

Activists from the group, which has also taken over Waterloo Bridge in London and yesterday scaled Glasgow's Finnieston Crane, launched the protest ahead of rush hour in Scotland's capital.

The action is part of a week of action planned around the world to raise awareness of climate change and encourage governments to act now.

CommonSpace reported there was a large police presence on the bridge at 3pm when the demonstration was due to begin.

Bus services Citylink and Lothian Busses confirmed services would be re-routed.
