What’s it called?

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

What’s it about?

Remember Sabrina The Teenage Witch, the anodyne 1990s comedy-drama from mainstream American network ABC which starred Melissa Joan Hart as a 16-year-old witch living with her 500-year-old aunts and attending the local high school? Well imagine a 15-certificate, vaguely feminist re-boot for Netflix, complete with lashings of Guillermo del Toro-style horror and nods to everything from Macbeth to Stephen King.

Who’s in it?

Sabrina Spellman (geddit?) is played by Kiernan Shipka, while Ross Lynch is her dopey boyfriend Harvey Kinkle. Miranda Otto and British actress Lucy Davis play aunts Zelda and Hilda, while another British actor, the wonderfully-named Chance Perdomo, plays Sabrina’s pansexual warlock cousin, currently under house arrest on the orders of the Witches Council.

Best bits so far?

Shipka is great, but the scenes that really buzz are the ones featuring either Perdomo or Scottish actress Michelle Gomez as Ms Wardwell, a teacher at Sabrina’s school whose likeness is taken over by the evil Madam Satan.

Where can I find it?

Part two of series one has just begun streaming on Netflix, which is where you’ll also find part one.

Fun fact …

If you’re wondering where you recognise the actors from, Shipka played John Hamm’s daughter Sally Draper in Mad Men and Lucy Davis was Dawn in The Office.
