Taking to the stage are male group Xavier; call centre worker Lywis; Nicola, a full-time mum from Manchester; theatre usher Ben; Welsh teaching assistant Shellyann; and Southern Flavor.
Pointless Celebrities, BBC1, 5.45pm
ALEXANDER Armstrong and Richard Osman present another celebrity version of the general knowledge quiz as famous faces try to come up with the least likely correct answers to a series of questions posed to members of the public. Today’s contestants are all from the culinary world – chefs, cooks and critics Prue Leith, Brian Turner, Grace Dent, William Sitwell, Hala El-Shafie, Ed Baines, Michael Caines and Anna Haugh.
Ninja Warrior UK, STV, 6.30pm
COMPETITORS from across the nation test their strength, speed and courage in this obstacle course challenge, hosted by Ben Shephard, Rochelle Humes and Chris Kamara. Members of the public compete alongside celebrities including Jake Quickenden, Dom Lever, Katie Walsh and Lee Latchford-Evans. Those who make it to the end of the adrenaline-fuelled mission face one final task – scaling the heights of a tower named Mount Midoriyama – as they battle it out for the title of Ninja Warrior UK.
In for a Penny, STV, 7.30pm
ORIGINALLY a segment on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, this new game show – yes, another one – sees Stephen Mulhern travel around Britain and invite members of the public to take part in hilarious games to win cash prizes and turn a penny into £1000. In Pump it Up, the host will pay for a driver’s petrol if they can insert the exact amount they’ve pre-chosen in just two pumps, while Mum’s the Word challenges members of the public to call their mothers and describe a word in 30 seconds without using specific words set out in the rules. In Check it Out, Stephen is taking a bit of inspiration from The Price is Right by presenting shoppers with five items on the conveyor belt and asking them to guess whether each item is more or less expensive than the previous one.
The Royal Family: Scandals at the Palace, Channel 5, 9pm
AN examination of how the press reports on supposed royal scandals. Perhaps the biggest of the last century came when King Edward VIII abdicated so he could marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. Then there was Princess Margaret’s forbidden romance with Peter Townsend and disastrous marriage to Lord Snowden; the episodes involving Charles and Diana labelled “Camillagate” and “Squidgygate”, Sarah Ferguson’s liaisons with her financial adviser; and Prince Harry’s stint in rehab.
