IT was the independence movement’s phenomenon of 2018, and now the All Under One Banner (AUOB) marchers will descend upon Glasgow in four weeks’ time.
The home city of AUOB will host the first march and rally of this year’s national tour of AUOB marches and rallies on Saturday May 4, and the team of organisers are well advanced in their preparations.
They are hoping for a huge turnout so that the Unionist media cannot ignore the Glasgow march and rally as they did last year. Only one journalist from one national newspaper went on the march – me.
AUOB spokesman Neil Mackay said: “With support for an independent Scotland exponentially on the rise, and with only four weeks to go until, the team at AUOB are busy hosting the second volunteers meeting for the Glasgow march at Hillhead Library (today from 1pm-4pm) along with an accompanying flyer handout in the surrounding area to promote participation on the forthcoming historic day May 4.
“Last year we saw over a quarter of a million free Scots take to Scotland’s streets over the course of 2018’s national tour and this year we anticipate that the figure will double to half a million.
“At Glasgow we shall witness the power and hunger of the independence movement with an expected attendance of up to 100,000 who cannot wait to take full advantage of the opportunity to express ourselves after a long wait since last October at Edinburgh.
“They will be stating loud and clear, both to Westminster and to Holyrood, that the people of Scotland want independence now and that we the people are going to make it happen.”
AUOB was founded in 2014, after the first referendum, on a mission to march for independence at regular intervals until independence is won and beyond.
Mackay added: “This is exactly what we have done and will keep doing with the organisation of AUOB going from strength to strength.
“An example of this is that this year we are laying on an AUOB bus service to help bring west of Scotland supporters to the marches across Scotland.
“All AUOB buses are wheelchair-user friendly and offer affordable day return bus travel from Glasgow to Galashiels, Oban, Ayr, Campbeltown, Aberdeen and Perth.
“We have kept the ticket prices as low as possible and currently have a bargain deal on for all independence supporters who purchase the early bird offer which is a season ticket for all six AUOB bus services at only £50 saving £43 compared to individual ticket prices.”
