MOTHER’S Day will see the launch of “Scotland’s answer” to historic London markets, bringing the country’s world-class produce to a new audience.

Jim Fairlie, the “Kitchen Farmer” who pioneered Scotland’s first farmers market in Perth, will help launch the Argyle Street Arches Food and Makers Market on March 31.

Platform, at Argyle Street Arches in Glasgow City Centre, is an independent street food market, with this move aimed at expanding its offering through producers “championing the farm to fork ethos”.

A spokesperson for Platform said: “We are thrilled to launch what we hope to be Scotland’s answer to London’s Borough Market right here in the city centre of Glasgow and build on the already successful Street Food Market, adding another dimension to the experience when you come in to Argyle Street Arches.

“All of our traders have been picked for their passion and creativity using fresh, seasonal and responsibly sourced products.

“We are really keen to connect the people of Glasgow with farmers, food producers and independent makers to provide a shopping experience that is unique to anywhere else in the country.”

In addition to the farmers market, there will be a Makers & Curators Quarter featuring independent designers, makers, curators and creators selling handmade clothes, jewellery, homeware, music, furniture, plants, gifts and crafts.

Platform estimates it welcomes 3000 visitors every weekend.
