EDINBURGH has re-entered the top 50 most expensive cities in Europe for renting a home.

Average rent for a three-bedroom flat has risen to £1529 per month, according to the latest housing report by global mobility experts ECA International, putting the capital at 45th on the list.

The firm says rent in Aberdeen has dropped by £190 per month due to low demand while rented accommodation in Glasgow remains the cheapest in the UK at £1050 per month.

The figures are based on the average cost for an unfurnished, mid-market, three-bedroom apartment.

ECA International accommodation services manager Alec Smith said: “Tax increases on buying second homes in Scotland have driven up landlords’ costs, while the phasing out of shorthold assured tenancies means many have increased rents to cover the perceived greater risks in renting out their properties.”
