The National:

AROUND the world, events are being held to celebrate International Women’s Day.

In Scotland, more than 400 women celebrated the birth of the Holyrood Parliament, highlighting the achievements of women over the past two decades.

Scottish Labour marked the occasion with a video paying homage to feminist heroes Mary Barbour and Jennie Lee.

The party announced it was “recommitting” to the fight against inequality.

Everyone on Twitter, however, responded with the exact same point.

Namely, that a Labour-led council in Glasgow spent a whopping £2.5 million to fight equal pay claims from female staff.

Pay disparity had been an issue in Glasgow City Council for decades and around 12,500 workers, mostly women, proceeded with claims following a Court of Session ruling in 2017 that female employees had been discriminated against.

It took an SNP-run council to solve the dispute, with a £500 million settlement agreed earlier this year.

That fact was not lost on social media users. Here’s how the Labour post went down on Twitter.
