The National:

THINGS have not gone well in the short time since seven Labour MPs quit the party.

Forty-nine minutes after the announcement of their formation of a new Independent Group their website crashed.

The National:

The breakaway group are splitting in protest at at Jeremy Corbyn's approach to Brexit and anti-Semitism.

The MPs, who are so convinced by this move that they are scared to call by-elections in their respective constituencies, are: Anna Coffey, Angela Smith, Chris Leslie, Mike Gapes, Luciana Berger, Gavin Shuker nad Chuka Umunna.

Since then we've had the news feed of their press conference accidentally pick up a voice saying "not gonna lie, but between this and Brexit we're utterly f**ked".

And it didn't take long for one of them to get racist live on TV, pretty ironic given one of the reasons for quitting is because of the lack of effective response to anti-Semitism.

"The recent history of the party I've just left suggests that it's not just about being black or a funny tinge... " she said, not quite following through with the final word, before clarifying that she was referring to the black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community.

Smith has since apologised.

We don't think it really matters what the word after funny is, was or was going to be, describing a skin colour as "funny" can only be interpreted one way.

To top it all off, it is now being reported that the group considered asking Ruth Davidson to lead their new centrist party, according to Chris Deerin of the New Statesman.

We are not making this up. Promise.

According to Deerin, a senior figure at the heart of the breakaway said they need “a different strategy for Scotland”.

Sadly, a group with racists in it led by Ruth Davidson is not new at all.

Remember the name, and impress your mates when The Independent Group become a difficult quiz question in future years...
