SCOTLAND’s busiest airport has celebrated its first ever one-million passenger November after a record number of people passed through the terminal last month.

The number of people flying from the airport grew by 11.7% on November 2017, resulting in the strongest month for year-on-year growth for 2018.

Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “To post our first ever one-million passenger November is great news and highlights the strong growth we are experiencing throughout the year, bringing more people into our fantastic country and taking others to countries across the world.

“These record figures show that we continue to play a crucial role in Scotland’s economy and we want to see that continue into 2019 and beyond.”

The airport’s market for domestic passengers also grew by 11.7%, which it cited as being a result of Ryanair reinstating its Standsted route with additional flights, and announcing a new route to Derry in October.

A newly launched easyJet service to Jersey could also have had an impact on passenger numbers, while Flybe, Loganair, British Airways and Ryanair all began flying with fuller planes than last year.

The number of international passengers also grew in line with these figures, possibly due to Ryanair and easyJet’s newly announced routes to Europe and beyond, increased services and the implementation of larger planes.
