STUCK for that last-minute Christmas present? Maybe you have a few pennies spare and want to find one more treat for that special someone.

The Highland distillery Tomatin is releasing its ultra-exclusive 50 Year Old whisky, limited to 70 bottles. And it is only £10,000.

The individually-numbered bottles have come of age in Tomatin’s distillery near Inverness.

In the 1970s it was the largest distillery in the world with 23 stills, producing more than 12 million litres of alcohol a year.

More recently Tomatin won Distiller of the Year in 2016 and Brand Innovator of the Year 2017 at the Icons of Whisky Scotland Awards.

Analysis by the Scotch Whisky Association found the value of whisky exports increased by 10.8% in the first half of 2018 to almost £2 billion.

The volume of bottles exported also increased by 5.6% to 558m bottles.

Graham Eunson, distillery manager at Tomatin, said of The Tomatin 50 Year Old: “This dignified expression is elegant and flavourful – a complex whisky with layers of taste sensations to delight the senses.

“Those privy to a taste of this whisky can expect warming spices which are mellowed by lashings of Manuka honey.”

The lavish bevvy comes presented in an Italian crafted wooden box furnished with premium Italian leather.

Eunson has signed an accompanying book, each numbered to go along with the bottle, and completing the package is a leather carry bag for when you rock up to your Hogmanay party on the lash.

The Tomatin 50 Year Old will be available in specialist retailers, so do not expect it on your local cornershops’ shelves next to the WKD.

The Tomatin distillery was established in 1897.
