1 Woman’s suffrage in Glasgow. An afternoon of talks. The Mitchell Library. A free event, but booking essential. A time to find out about the Glasgow and West of Scotland Association for Women’s Suffrage, Glasgow Lady Artists, trade unionist and suffragette Jessie Stephen, as well as the collections of Glasgow Museums and the Glasgow Women’s Library. Speakers and audience alike will use first-hand accounts to describe the daring protests by suffragettes in St Andrews Hall, where the library now stands.
2 House for an Art Lover Christmas Fayre. Today. Free, 11am-3pm. This is the event that always gets me in the mood for Christmas.Choc-a-bloc full of festive fun and foodie gifts, homemade fudge, jams and chutneys, to handmade jewellery, a whole array of gifts, cards and even works from local artists, located over two levels, plus a pop-up lounge for tea, coffee and cakes with a festive film playing!
3 Christmas Lunch at Edinburgh Castle. A really special day out: three-course lunch in the Queen Anne Room and a chance to poke about the castle. Opulent, extravagant and unique. Pricey but a feast fit for royalty. £45.
4 The Osmonds. Yep those white-toothed singing sensations from the 1970s are going to rock your Christmas world at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on December 7 from 7pm. Tickets from the venue. A nostalgic party that makes you feel 16 again.
5 “To live with what you are.” Stirling Central Library. Free – but register at Eventbrite. An event to celebrate the launch of the new novel by the amazing Charlie Gracie. Everyone has to be true to what they really are ... but what if you are a creative genius and a committer of random acts of malice? To Live With What You Are lets you under the skin of Maura and James, a couple you’ll never forget. The Stirling launch event will be shared with Elizabeth Rimmer, who will be reading from her wonderful recently published poetry collection Haggards.
6 Glasgow’s Christmas Market is wonderfully hosting an autism-friendly day on Tuesday from 10am until 6pm. The George Square Market is collaborating with Glasgow Life and the National Autistic Society. Staff at the Christmas Market have undertaken training to ensure they can improve the market experience with a day specifically designed to be supportive of autistic people and their families. Music will be quieter, flashing lights will be turned off and a warm and dry quiet room will be open. Specially trained staff will be on hand to answer questions and a map detailing the layout of the market and its key features will be available.
7 Icons on Ice. £10. December 3, New King’s Aberdeen. Tickets from Eventbrite. 7.30pm until 9pm. Rod Downie, chief polar advisor for WWF, talks about all things North Pole, including climate change.. and importantly the polar bear. Hosted by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. What’s it like to get up close and personal with these beautiful endangered beasts?
