LABOUR councillor Scott Arthur really didn't think through what he was tweeting yesterday - and if he did that only makes it worse.

The Edinburgh councillor bounced onto Twitter last night to share a poll asking whether it was 9/11, the Iraq War or photo calls that had driven SNP MSP Humza Yousaf into politics.

Humza, who is Muslim, blasted the thoughtless attack for associating him with 9/11, stating "the language he used, intentionally Islamophobic or not, is what will put Muslims off entering politics".

The National:

Arthur has since deleted the tweet, and claims that it was taken out of context. However, when sharing the tweet he didn't provide the context so... that shouldn't have been a surprise.

Arthur clarified on his blog that he had shared the cynical tweet to highlight "inconsistent" explanations for why Yousaf joined politics, and has apologised, claiming that he hadn't intended to offend.

In fact, he went as far as to say that he had not wished to offend Humza Yousaf in particular, which is an odd thing to say about a tweet that's sole intention was to attack Humza Yousaf.

Yousaf intends to write to Edinburgh Labour's council leader to ask if action will be taken.

He also snapped back at Arthur's jibe about photo calls, joking that the councillor himself was clearly above such "shenanigans".
