MINIMUM alcohol pricing is coming into force across Scotland, and many were hoping that that would be the end of the changes to buying yer carry-oot from the off-licence.
However, some folk have other ideas.
Advisers who pushed the campaign for minimum pricing forward have now proposed another means to tackle alcoholism in Scotland; by reducing the hours it can be bought even further.
Scotland’s licensing laws are already stricter than in England, where the purchase of alcohol outside of pubs and clubs is limited to 10pm. In England, no such restrictions exist and many shops carry 24-hour alcohol licenses.
A group of medical and clinical advisers believe that bringing the cut-off point down to 8pm will help reduce health and social problems further – but many Scots were not so pleased to hear the news.
Former National columnist Angry Scotland shared exactly what they thought of the news in two words. “F**k Off”.
Responding to the elusive social media personality’s tweet, others shared their thoughts on the development.
One person claimed it was “Treating adults like bairns!” whilst @dogma2097 solemnly recounted “First they came for wir Irn Bru, and I said nothing, Then they came for ma cheeky vimto...”

Then they came for ma cheeky vimto...
Other Twitter users were concerned about the future of deep-fried mars bars, wondering if they would be next in the firing line.
Meanwhile, the news sparked concerns over tourism as Twitter user @Bfo5ter claimed “I wouldn’t visit Scotland again”.

Finally, @oztrazine seemed ready to do whatever they could to get round the ban, promising that a “weegie would walk to England for his carry out”.
Over my dead body.....A weegie would walk to england for his carry out like ;)

Peter Rice, chairman of the Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems, has said that Scotland should follow in the footsteps of Sweden and go even further, restricting alcohol sales to no later than 6pm.
We have two words for him too.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
