SAJID Javid has been appointed as the new Home Secretary following the resignation of Amber Rudd.

Javid has served as secretary of state for housing, communities and local government since July 2016.

He will be Britain's first BME Home Secretary.

Rudd faced criticism after the revelation of immigration removal targets – targets she initially claimed didn't exist.

Rudd subsequently admitted the targets existed but that she wasn't aware of them, but the pressure grew after a newspaper revealed that she had received email correspondence that mentioned the targets.
