AN EXHIBITION of work from one of the world’s most significant performance artists will open in Dundee this week.
Work by internationally renowned artist Ulay will be on display at the University of Dundee’s Cooper Gallery from Thursday.
So You See Me is Ulay’s first major solo exhibition in the UK.
The exhibition will feature a newly commissioned sound installation drawn from the artist’s earlier work Aphorisms, alongside the film of Ulay’s There is a Criminal Touch to Art, a 30-hour live performance that took place in Berlin in 1976.
It will be accompanied by a public engagement programme working with local groups and emerging artists and writers and culminating in an International Symposium on December 2.
Curator Sophia Hao said: “Given the uncertainties and profound shifts in the contemporary political landscape, now is an opportune moment in which to present a crucial example of an artistic practice which places great emphasis on the ethical, moral and political ramifications of being in public.
“Ulay’s practice presented in this exhibition is a significant and inspiring example of how the political stems from and appears as a dialogue between ‘one and the many’.”
