IN this age of surreal politics in Westminster, Boris Johnson appears to have in his possession the only government record of WhatsApp exchanges during the first months of the pandemic. The Prime Minister was using his own phone for all manner of official and private business.

Perhaps the explanation for the statement that Nicola Sturgeon does not have informal WhatsApps from the pandemic is that Scottish ministers use only official departmental phones and laptops for government business, and these are backed up by IT staff and handed back when the user leaves their post or the government.

Pretty much the same as happens in most companies that rely on staff using mobile phones and laptops for their business.
