MURIEL Gray boldly proclaims that Mackintosh’s School of Art can and will be rebuilt to the millimetre. This it seems is to happen regardless of the costs, which are being estimated by some at around £100,000,000; the time, perhaps seven years; and the potential disruption to homes and businesses in the surrounding area.

As the chair of an organisation which appears to have been unable to install suitable fire protection systems on two previous occasions, forgive me if I think a pause for at least a little thought and consultation with all concerned would be advisable.

If I took an original Mackintosh drawing, photocopied it, burnt the original, photocopied and then burnt the first copy, what would be the value of the second photocopy?
