THE extraordinary comments by Andrew Marr in his praise for Ruth Davidson were highly revealing. Marr and the BBC’s mask of impartiality slipped with his views about her being the most popular politician in Scotland. He shows little understanding of Scotland, its people and politics.

This is the same Ruth Davidson who daily hides from tough questions, preferring statement releases. The same Ruth Davidson that the BBC refuses to doorstep having happily done so with almost every Scottish Cabinet minister including Nicola Sturgeon.

She was elected in 2016 by just 610 votes on a single-issue manifesto and previously was rejected by the electorate to arrive in Holyrood by the back door. I fully understand why she never wants to be Prime Minister of England as she would be savaged by a press pack that doesn’t understand the Scottish media’s kid-gloves approach. She would actually have to answer questions put to her. Davidson is protected by a BBC Scotland whose political commentators consider themselves to be the official opposition to the Scottish Government.
