PHOTOGRAPHS of some of the most famous faces of the 1960s went on show yesterday as the family of Scots aristocrat Robin Douglas-Home prepare to have his personal collection sold.

The pianist, journalist and photographer captured images of Frank Sinatra, John F Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor, among others.

Original shots from his private albums have been digitally enhanced to museum standard for sale at auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull in London.

Many of the photographs presented in the show, titled The Sixties Set, were taken after Douglas-Home, who famously had a relationship with Princess Margaret, was invited to spend six months living with Sinatra at his Palm Springs mansion.

The National:

That led on to encounters with actors Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty and musicians including composer Nelson Riddle.

In a statement, Lyon & Turnbull said: “The exhibition is a true insider’s look at celebrity in the 1960s.”

Douglas-Home was the eldest son of Henry Douglas-Home, son of the 13th Earl of Home, and Lady Margaret Spencer, a great aunt of Princess Diana.

He was also the nephew of Alec Douglas-Home, who served as prime minister from 1963-64. The musician and writer first met Sinatra at a society dinner in London.
