VIRGIN Trains have revealed the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Express; their first train to be named after a Scot in 15 years!

The train has been named after one of Scotland's great artists to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth, alongside a year-long programme of events marking the great man himself.

The train will feature Mackintosh's trademark moustache, as well as displaying the name of the train in the artist's style.

The National:

Virgin Trains' general manager for Scotland, Michael Stewart, unveiled the nameplate with Glasgow SNP councillor David McDonald.

Stewart said that the name was chosen to celebrate the train company's role in Scotland's biggest city.

He stated: "Virgin Trains has served Glasgow for more than 20 years and it's fitting that we are naming one of our trains after one of the city's most famous sons.

"We hope people get involved with this right across our west coast route as the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Express goes on tour."

Passengers and passers-by are being encouraged to snap a selfie with the train. Whoever takes the best picture will win two first class return tickets to Glasgow from London, Birmingham or Preston.
