ANYONE who doubts that a genuine mass Yes movement is springing up across Scotland need only look at the National’s calendar for confirmation.
This coming week alone will see a variety of events across the country and the diary is filling up all the time.
Today the Radical Independence Campaign will meet for its Spring Conference in Edinburgh with a host of top speakers lined up for four sessions starting at 11am in Edinburgh Methodist Church at 25 Nicolson Square.

It’s not just Yes Groups who are fighting for independence and for maintaining Scotland’s identity as a nation – the Scottish Greens in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are hosting a meeting today in the Buchan Hotel in Ellon from 1pm to discuss the importance of maintaining Scotland’s brands in the face of what we have called Union Jackery.
Ruth Watson, founder of Keep Scotland the Brand, will speak at the meeting at the end of the week in which the Walker’s Shortbread and Bell’s whisky revelations have shown the threat to Scottish produce.
Also today, Women for Independence Clackmannanshire is holding a stall at Stirling Farmers’ Market in the city centre – at the pedestrian precinct between Port St and King St – between 11am and 2.30pm to help promote the national #KeepScotlandtheBrand campaign.
Tuesday will see Cupar’s Crossgate Centre for an Independent Scotland hosting local expert Graeme McCormick’s presentation on a model for Annual Ground Rent and a Universal Citizens Income. All are welcome and admission is free for the event at 7pm on Tuesday at Duffus Park Bowling Club, Carslogie Road.
A meeting to celebrate International Women’s Day will take place in Cumbernauld on Wednesday starting in the Link Community Centre at 7.30pm.
Organised by Yes Cumbernauld, the meeting is to give a space for discussion about the issues most relevant for women in considering whether Scotland’s future lies in independence.
Local Yes campaigner Angela Caufield said: “The agenda for the meeting will be set by those who attend as the idea is to allow for a series of discussions around issues that are relevant for women in Scotland and whether these issues can be better addressed by maintaining the status quo or in an independent Scotland.”
The same night will see the new Yes Eastwood group meeting in Mearns Castle High School at 7:30pm. The speakers include former East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald, author and playwright Alan Bisset, and academic and Common Weal researcher Dr. Craig Dalziel and journalist David Torrance, well known for his skepticism about independence. Should be lively.
