AFTER reading the right-wing conservative media outlets over the weekend and listening to some ultra-right-wing conservative commentators and MPs, it would now appear there is a definite effort not just to undermine the elected parliament of Scotland but to dissolve it.
The political climate in Scotland has now moved beyond Brexit and independence and will become a battle to preserve our elected parliament. Conservatives have never liked the concept of a Scottish Parliament as they always knew their right-wing policies would never put them in a position to be the major party and they would always be the bridesmaid. It is now up to all Scots and all MSPs from the socially responsible parties to stand firm. The Scottish Parliament has improved the lives of Scots even in the face of the worst kind of conservatism and constant attacks on the poor and disabled.
Let’s not let these imposters either undermine or dissolve an institution that has taken 300 years to resurrect and has given power back to the Scottish people.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
