IT is time to inject a some common sense into this debate on the SNP and Cambridge Analytica (SNP met Cambridge Analytica but walked away from ‘cowboys’, April 18).

Cambridge Analytica (CA) was not a company in the headlines at the time it had a meeting with a representative of the SNP. Obviously the contact was not of great significance to CA, as its former director Brittany Kaiser had no information other than that meetings had taken place and no knowledge of any discussions at board level.

In fact her words “political parties, such as the SNP” appears more like a throwaway comment to Brendan O’Hara rather than a serious statement to the committee.

There was no blunder by the SNP, no politician made any contact with CA and the contact was made by a consultant who turned down the company.

Representatives seeking business contact people daily in most companies and vice versa. Very few of these contacts would even be reported to the next line of management, let alone up to board level.
